My paintings have evolved from a strong interest in light and attempt to recreate this through the use of colour and pattern; allowing reverberation of the picture plane.

I am interested in the hand-made.  Although executed with a pencil and ruler, paint is applied by brush without the use of masking techniques; this means that each original painting is a unique statement that contains its own imperfections.

Further Information

My work is primarily concerned with the recreation of light through reverberation of the picture plane.  My current work investigates different possibilities of patterns, push-pull space and relationships between Payne’s Grey and Titanium White. Its roots lie in Greenbergian philosophy of the shape of the canvas, properties of the pigment and the flatness of the picture plane.  Taking this further and studying Optical art I have been producing and exhibiting optical paintings with great success since 1998.
